Among Barbados Activities, The Congaline Carnival will be Missed

Share

The Congaline Carnival (now discontinued) was one of my favorite Barbados activities.

This Barbadian Carnival was held annually at the end of April (usually over the last week) and finished on May 1 (May Day – a national holiday) with a May Day Parade. Congaline Village, which is located in St. Lawrence Gap, Barbados,is the namesake of the festival that began with the what was often referred to as the longest Conga Line in the Caribbean islands.

Starting in 1994 and running through 2004, the Congaline Festival was primarily a music festival centered at the Dover Playing Field in St. Lawrence Gap. The musical entertainment included mostly local musicians playing calypso, steelpan, socca and gospel.
